功能主義視角下的“信達(dá)雅”

【摘要】: 在中國(guó)翻譯史上,沒(méi)有哪個(gè)術(shù)語(yǔ)能比嚴(yán)復(fù)的“信達(dá)雅”更加影響深遠(yuǎn),也沒(méi)有哪個(gè)術(shù)語(yǔ)能比嚴(yán)復(fù)的“信達(dá)雅”更加備受爭(zhēng)議。無(wú)論是以嚴(yán)復(fù)的翻譯行為還是翻譯思想為研究對(duì)象,“信達(dá)雅”研究的持久不衰,主要取決于隱含其中的一個(gè)深刻悖論:一方面,嚴(yán)復(fù)以“信達(dá)雅”為“文章正軌”、“譯事楷!,另一方面,嚴(yán)復(fù)翻譯實(shí)踐被認(rèn)為違反了“信達(dá)雅”原則。從信達(dá)雅的英文翻譯之一“faithfulness,fluency andelegance”來(lái)看,傳統(tǒng)的規(guī)定性翻譯研究方法對(duì)嚴(yán)復(fù)的“信達(dá)雅”研究的影響可見(jiàn)一斑。然而,這種研究方法除了得出嚴(yán)復(fù)“不忠”的結(jié)論外,并不能從根本上解決上述的悖論:不僅如此,規(guī)定性翻譯研究由于其自身的先驗(yàn)性缺陷和普適性翻譯標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的渺茫性而變得積重難返,最終反而阻礙了我們對(duì)嚴(yán)復(fù)的翻譯思想和翻譯行為的理解。20世紀(jì)70年代的德國(guó)功能主義理論為我們帶來(lái)了嶄新的視角,與以往以語(yǔ)言學(xué)為基礎(chǔ)的翻譯理論不同,功能主義突破了以一系列“忠實(shí)與自由”為軸心的對(duì)立從而被賦予更大的解釋能力與適用性。本篇論文旨在借助德國(guó)功能主義理論,嘗試對(duì)“信達(dá)雅”產(chǎn)生的歷史文化環(huán)境,嚴(yán)復(fù)的目標(biāo)受眾及翻譯目的等因素進(jìn)行考量,以期對(duì)嚴(yán)復(fù)翻譯思想取得更全面的認(rèn)識(shí)。
[Abstract]:In the history of Chinese translation, there is no term more influential than Yan Fu's "Cinda elegance", and no term is more controversial than Yan Fu's "Cinda elegance".Whether taking Yan Fu's translation behavior or translation thought as the object of study, the persistence of the study of "Cinda elegance" mainly depends on one of the profound paradoxes implied: on the one hand, Yan Fu regards "Cinda elegance" as "the right track of the article".On the other hand, Yan Fu's translation practice is considered to be in violation of the principle of "Cinda and elegance".From the perspective of faithfulness andelegance, one of Cinda's English translations, it can be seen that the influence of traditional prescriptive translation research methods on Yan Fu's "Cinda Ya" study.However, in addition to drawing the conclusion of Yan Fu's "infidelity", this research method does not fundamentally solve the above paradox: not only that,Due to its own transcendental defects and the vagueness of universal translation standards, it is not easy to solve the problem of the accumulation of prescriptive translation studies over a long period of time.On the other hand, it hinders our understanding of Yan Fu's translation thought and translation behavior. The German functionalism theory in the 1970s has brought us a new perspective, which is different from the previous translation theory based on linguistics.Functionalism breaks through a series of "faithfulness and freedom" as the axis of opposites and is endowed with greater explanatory power and applicability.With the help of German functionalism, this thesis attempts to consider the historical and cultural environment, the target audience and the translation purpose of Yan Fu in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Yan Fu's translation thought.
